Just Wet
May 30, 2006
I just came out of Christopher's room where it's "naptime". I went in there having heard some thumping, skull-on-carpet type noise. Of course he's looking at his orchestra book and otherwise causing no ruckus. I tell him, "OK, night-night – it's time to be quiet".
He says, "a change a diaper".
"Do you have a stinky poop?", I ask. He nods. A quick look down the britches from behind confirms the diagnosis – stalling for time.
I say, "no stinky poop".
He replies, "Just wet."

Chips, dip and ice cream
May 20, 2006
I will often ask Christopher what he wants to eat for lunch. For the last couple of weeks, his response is always “Chips.” I tell him that he may have chips, but that he has to have something else with them. Mom: “What else do you want?” Christopher: “Dip.” Every day.
Christopher and Will enjoyed a visit from Nana and Granddad last week, even though the weather was crummy and Christopher had walking pneumonia (which isn’t actually as bad as it sounds–he’s fine after some antibiotics). While shopping, we all stopped into a gelato shop, and Christopher heard us talking about ice cream. He went to his Granddad, took Granddad’s face in both hands, put his face just inches from Granddad’s, and said very seriously, “Ice cream.” When this didn’t produce ice cream within 30 seconds, he repeated it a few more times until he was assured that Granddad was going to buy him some ice cream. Amazing how Christopher instictively knew that out of the four adults with him, Granddad would be the most likely candidate for the buying of the ice cream.
Will continues to be a very happy baby, grinning all time and showing off that adorable dimple. He loves to watch his big brother! Will is looking forward to his first big road trip–he’ll join us for a trip to Memphis next week to see Uncle Brian graduate from medical school. Congrats, Uncle Brian!!
Momma’s Chick-fil-a Adventure
May 3, 2006
Christopher, Will and I met some friends for lunch at Chick-fil-a today–an almost-weekly occurance for us, since the indoor play area makes for an especially great play-date. I've been trying to encourage Christopher's motor skill development and sense of adventure (he is SO cautious!), so I helped him climb up into the big play set with the tunnels up by the ceiling and the big yellow slide to come down. Well, poor Christopher made it all the way to the slide and then started crying and saying "no slide!" I tried everything–pleading with him to come down the slide, pointing out the other children slipping past them and safely making their way down, bribing him with goldfish crackers–but he was NOT coming down that slide! So then I tried to get him to go back through the tunnels so I could get him down the way he went up, but he took a wrong turn, ended up in a little dead end area with a fun mirror that he was not appreciating, and got even more upset.
So with the busy lunchtime crowd looking on, Mommy climbed up through the play set, crawled through the tunnels (so thankful I'm not pregnant anymore!), retrieved the screaming 2-year-old, and came down the slide with him. About halfway down the slide, Christopher suddenly began having a great time, and when we got to the bottom, he kept saying, "More slide! Momma come on the slide!" It was definitely one of what I'm sure will be many embarrassing mommy moments. But I do love those waffle fries.
