The concerned, but slightly too loud, big brother
August 21, 2006
Mommy’s on a roll with her blog posts lately!
Yesterday, Will was playing in his exersaucer (I wish all of you could hear Christopher pronounce “exersaucer”!) next to Christopher. I got Will out and took him upstairs, but Christopher didn’t see me do it. A few minutes later, I hear him yelling from downstairs and went to see what was wrong. He said, “My Will! My Will! My baby brother!” Poor kid thought his baby brother was missing!
This morning at church, the worship team played an upbeat prelude, and Christopher was watching and listening closely. When they were finished, there was a pause, and Christopher yelled, “Yaaayyy!!” The worst part was, I was sure there were about 200 pairs of eyes looking my way, but I couldn’t stop laughing!
Hiccups
August 18, 2006
The other day, I was feeding Will breakfast, and I had the hiccups. Every time I hiccupped, Will thought it was hilarious. He would laugh for a few seconds and then stop and look at me, waiting for me to do it again. And anytime Will laughs, Christopher starts laughing, so it was quite the funny breakfast!
This will shock all of you who are familiar with my lack of discipline when it comes to an exercise routine . . . Christopher was talking about how Daddy wasn’t home, because he was at work fixing hands. Curious, I asked him, “what does Mommy do at work?” He said, “Momma goes to the Y!”
Yesterday, Christopher was talking on his play phone, and I asked him who he was talking to. “Daddy.” “What’s Daddy doing?” “He’s talking to Christopher!” I guess that should have been obvious.
Baby birds and wet toes
August 14, 2006
Christopher had a big morning with Daddy on Saturday, eating “cake” for breakfast at Starbucks and then going to ride a “train”–the monorail that runs between some of the hospitals downtown where Daddy works. When they got home, they did some work in the yard, and Christopher was holding a small rake. Daddy saw a baby bird and said, “Look, Christopher, it’s a baby bird!”
Christopher: “Want to rake him.”
Christopher is showing a great understanding of the English language these days. The other day, he was trying to say, “I slept”, and we weren’t understanding him. We kept asking him to say it again so we could figure it out. Finally, he thought about it for a moment and said, “I sleeped!” Then we realized what he was saying and thought it was hilarious that he had to dumb it down for his parents to understand. We didn’t know he knew how to use irregular verbs like that!
Will is doing great with his sitting up, and he can sit for a few minutes now. He usually ends up doubled over, trying to get his feet in his mouth. He has started waking up happy in his crib, and often plays for awhile before I realize he is awake. Most mornings when I go into get him, the feet of his pajamas are wet from having them in his mouth!

Mommy and Christopher moments
August 7, 2006
Last week at the doctor’s office, sitting side-by-side in chairs:
Christopher: We’re sitting in chairs, Momma! (pointing to each chair)
Mommy: Yes, we are.
Christopher: Not three chairs. Just two.
Today, getting ready for naptime, Mommy yawns.
Christopher: Are you tired? You need to go to sleep?
Mommy: Yeah, I wish.
Christopher: I’m sorry, honey. You need a hug. (Gave me a big hug)
Sometimes having a toddler is like someone taking a great big mirror and holding it up in front of you, reminding you constantly of things you said and did and didn’t even notice at the time. Kind of like when he shook a finger at me and said, “You’re a mess today!”
Funny tail and yummy toes
August 6, 2006
Many more Christopher-isms are emerging . . . one is that I (Mommy) am growing my hair out and have started wearing it in a ponytail sometimes. Christopher is fascinated by Mommy’s “funny-tail”, as he calls it.
Yesterday I took Christopher to the YMCA for the first time, since I joined recently and wanted to take advantage of the child care that is provided. I told him that we were going to the Y, where he could play with some fun toys while Mommy exercised. I even pointed out the Y on the door when we went in, and he was so excited to be at the Y. When I picked him up, he had had a blast, and he excitedly told me, “I want to go to the Z now, Mama, I want to go to the Z!”
We went to a make-up class today for music class and had a different teacher than we normally have. This teacher plays the violin and brought it to the class. Christopher spotted it when we first walked in the room, and he went nuts, wanting to play it. After class, she let him help her play it, with Christopher sitting on her lap, putting his hand on hers as she held the bow. You can imagine how great he thought that was and the tantrum when it was time to go! Maybe Mommy will get brave enough to get out her viola sometime and do the same thing.
Will has celebrated his six-month birthday, and he is starting to enjoy his solid foods. After a couple of weeks of a clenched jaw and spitting his food everywhere, Will has decided that eating is fun and actually opens his mouth and swallows, with the occasional squash or applesauce shower for Mommy. He especially loves sweet potatoes and actually cries when they are gone (a rare occurence for our very happy baby!).
Will must have some Brewer genes, because just like his Aunt Amanda, he loves to chew on his toes! (Just to clarify–Aunt Amanda doesn’t still have this habit, as far as I know.) He has been sitting up, usually only for a minute, but he sat once for as long as it took me to change Christopher’s diaper! He has a new exersaucer with lots of things to chew on, and he has learned how to bounce up and down in his jumper, too. Christopher thinks Will’s bouncing is hilarious!! Their laughter is contagious, and sometimes the two brothers will just laugh at each other for awhile. It is so sweet! The other day, Christopher spotted a scratch on the back of Will’s leg. He was really concerned and had to go give him a kiss, and then proclaimed “he’s all better now!”
