Is it cheetos or cheetahs?
December 17, 2006
As I was thinking about what I was going to post today, I realized that if you pay enough attention, you will really be questioning how healthily I feed my children. And then I logged on and remembered that my last post involved a chocolate muffin! Yikes! I promise, my children do eat fruits and veggies at least a couple of times a day!
But the other day, we were eating baked cheetos at lunch. Christopher said, “These are cheetos. It is like a tiger or leopard.” (I’m pretty sure I gave him that description of a cheetah a few months ago.)
Christopher has become a big fan of the phrases “a little bit” and “a little while”. Tonight, we were having pizza and breadsticks, and while he was chowing down on a breadstick, I asked him if he was going to try his pizza. “No,” he said, “I’m going to eat my breadsticks for a little while.” I don’t know why that cracks me up coming out of his little mouth, but it does.
Our theme for the week has been the verse and corresponding song that say, “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4). It is very relevant both for children going through the terrible twos and mommies going through the terrible twos! This morning, Will was fussing because he was running a fever, and Christopher looked right in his eyes and very seriously admonished him, “Will, you need to rejoice!”
I told Christopher today that we are going to Arkansas in one week. His response? A huge smile. “I like Arkansas! I am very excited!”
It’s never enough.

This morning, we took the boys to Panera for breakfast. The last time we were there, Christopher discovered the bliss of the chocolate chip muffin. As soon as I told him we were going today, he said, “I’m going to have a muffin! A chocolate muffin!” And the tantrums began at just my suggestion that we’d have to wait and see if they had chocolate chip muffins. Believe me, Grandma and Grandpa sitting at Panera in Arkansas would have heard the screaming if we had arrived to find no chocolate chip muffins. But thankfully, there was an ample supply. After firmly establishing our order of a chocolate chip muffin and chocolate milk (don’t worry, this is a rare occurance!), Christopher asked loudly, much to the amusement of the workers behind the counter, “Can I have a cookie with my chocolate muffin?”
As a side note, Will will still not eat even the smallest pieces of banana, but he’ll devour entire slices of cheese toast. I think he’s going to take after his brother’s carb-aholic tendencies. And he’s learned how to pull himself up onto his knees in his crib so he can chew on the top rail. He’s also very good at going from a sitting position to a quick army-crawl, which is making the taking of the Christmas photo exceedingly difficult. He won’t sit still!
Adventures in Self-feeding

Mommy is working hard to transition me from baby food to regular food. I’ll eat pears and bread, but I absolutely refuse to eat a vegetable or meat–I know what I like and what I don’t! Out of desperation a few days ago, Mommy spread a baby food meat concoction on some crackers, and I loved it. The best part was spreading “chicken noodle dinner” everywhere I could reach! Mommy said that she never in a million years would have let Christopher eat anything this messy!!
