Is this Arkansas?

Whew! It has taken me awhile to recover from our move and get back to blogging. We are still missing Daddy, but the boys and I are somewhat settled in at our new house in Arkansas. Christopher has adjusted fabulously so far. Will was very clingy for awhile, but he’s doing better now. One of my favorite moments was when we brought the boys to the house for the first time. I waited until the movers had delivered our stuff, and I had set up their rooms with their beds and some toys. Christopher was ecstatic–he ran all over his “new red house” looking at everything and loved his much-anticipated new train bedding. Will mirrored Christopher’s excitement by toddling around with his hands in the air, saying, “YAY!” Christopher actually asked to go to bed early that night because he was so excited about his new bed!
After referring to this house as his new red house for months, Christopher was surprised that only the outside is red. One morning after we moved in, he commented that the inside was not red, but yellow. (The walls are painted a pale, creamy yellow shade for now.) He looked up at the ceiling of his room and said, “The walls aren’t red, they are yellow with some white bumps.” After some investigative questioning, I discovered that the white bumps were the a/c vents and smoke detector.
Everywhere we go, Christopher asks, “Is this Arkansas?” “Is this our new church in Arkansas?” “Is this the library in Arkansas?” “Is this the Chick-fil-a in Arkansas?” “Is this the store in Arkansas?” One of our favorite places to go is our neighborhood pool. Both boys love to play in the water. The other day, I was putting sunscreen on Christopher, and of course, he was asking why. I explained that part of my job is to protect him from things that can hurt him, like sunburn. He replied, “You have to protect us from sunburn and hot food.” I’m glad all my work cutting up and blowing on food hasn’t gone unnoticed.
